New York, NY (PRWEB) June 24, 2006 -- The second of three freerolls in a series leading up to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) was won by a Danish man who goes by the name "Yogo1." The 24-year-old student played his way to his biggest win to date and walked away with a chance to go up against the pros at the WSOP this summer in Las Vegas.
The freeroll tournament sponsored by PokerListings.com and PacificPoker.com took place in early June. Yogo1 beat out 112 players to win a $15,000 WSOP Main Event prize package which includes the $10,000 Main Event buy-in and $2,500 for travel and accommodation expenses.
Yogo1 said he was pretty deep into the tournament before he even thought he had a possibility of winning.
"It was not before we were down to four or five left that I really believed I had a shot at winning the tournament," he said. "I had played as a low stack for much of the tournament, getting the better of some coin flips in some crucial situations."
Even then, Yogo1 was in disbelief over his win. He said it took him days for the reality of it to really sink in.
He won the WSOP second freeroll in a series of three being offered at Pacific Poker. The third will be played in early July and will award another $15,000 WSOP prize package. In addition, $2,500 in cash will be spread out to places 2-20, with second place receiving a $1,000 payout.
"As Yogo1 found out, the freeroll tournaments we're offering with Pacific Poker are a great chance for players to earn a seat at the WSOP Main Event this summer," said Steven Williams, senior editor at PokerListings.com. "The strict requirements of this bonus make the odds good for any player who qualifies to compete for the WSOP prize package being offered."
For Yogo1, making the requirements for the freeroll was easy as he plays almost daily on the site.
"Most of the hours I play at the moment are at Pacific Poker, so that would be a couple of hours per day on average," Yogo1 said. "I think they have come a long way lately with their recent upgrades. Before, the graphics were awful and the speed was as well. Now the design is much sleeker and the speed is better."
Yogo1 found the site through PokerListings.com which he used to explore other poker rooms online to find the one he preferred to play at.
"When I first started playing and came across the site, searching for new rooms and new bonuses, I visited very often," he said.
"I think that it's a very good site, especially for new players who haven't tried very many poker rooms. The site provides a good range of criteria to look for and some well-written reviews as well. Aside from the first room I played at, many of the rooms I tried later on were because of the information I got on PokerListings.com."
Yogo1 has been a gambler, betting on sports and playing card games with friends, for several years, but only got into poker in the last couple years. He was hooked after winning the first two of four tournaments that he played in.
That tournament experience and online play will come in handy when he walks in to take a seat at the WSOP with thousands of other players this July.
"I'm very excited about it. It's difficult not to be a bit nervous, but I believe you have to be in order to perform at your best, so it's not an issue," Yogo1 said. "I would take it as a bonus to play with some of the top pros -- another huge experience."
